Alexandra Cassaniti, a native of Encinitas, brings a unique blend of local roots, global perspective, and innovative thinking to the Klemo Foundation. With a background spanning sustainable product development, environmental volunteering, and graduate studies focused on the intersection of technology and sustainability—qualities that embody the foundation's mission.
In 2008, Alexandra launched the lifestyle brand SUMMER BUMMER, a pioneering line of clothing and accessories made from neoprene scrap waste from the surf industry, as well as sustainable cotton products, all produced in domestic facilities to minimize carbon impact. In 2016 she co-founded Sew Cool CA, a manufacturing company that manages U.S.-based sewing and production services for independent fashion and lifestyle brands. Through her ongoing consulting practice, she continues to help small businesses develop sustainable products and spaces across diverse sectors, from fashion and home goods to beauty and skincare. Her expertise extends to interior/exterior design-build projects and native, water-wise landscape design.
Her multifaceted background in sustainable design—from landscapes and built environments to products and manufacturing—uniquely positions her to lead the Klemo Foundation's mission of creating thoughtfully designed spaces and programs that foster environmental consciousness and community connection.
Founder / Treasurer and CFO
Lauren Swank is a dynamic leader at the intersection of sustainability, energy, and finance. She holds a BA in Economics from Columbia University’s Barnard College and is pursuing her MBA at Cornell University, with an expected graduation in May 2025. Lauren’s ca- reer spans impactful roles in market research, business development, and data analysis at organizations such as American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Axos Bank, Energetic Capital, and Patagonia.
Her professional experience is complemented by a deep passion for regenerative agriculture, which began with a summer apprenticeship on a permaculture farm in Ventura County in 2015. After complet- ing her undergraduate degree, she further honed her expertise in sustainable agriculture through apprenticeships on a rooftop farm in Brooklyn, NY, and at Essex Farm and North Country Creamery in Upstate NY, where she pursued farming full-time.
Beyond her professional and academic endeavors, Lauren enjoys surfing and sailing — embodying a lifelong commitment to environ- mental stewardship and a sustainable future.
